Zusatzinfo

MAKING A PHOTOBOOK A PRACTICAL AND THEORETICAL COURSE WITH GERRY BADGER (CO-AUTHOR with Martin Parr of THE PHOTOBOOK: A HISTORY – Phaidon 2004) OCTOBER 10-13, 2013 (4 days) This workshop will take participants through the process of making their own photobook in a series of practical and theoretical lessons. At the end of the course, each student should have produced a draft pdf (print document file) of a photobook of 20 to 25 photographs, which they will be asked to shoot in a single day. Participants in the workshop will be required to choose a theme to be completed in a day and then shoot enough pictures on a chosen day (around a week before the course), which they will bring to the workshop. There, in combination with short lectures about photobook theory, they will be taken through the process of sequencing and editing the pictures they shot. Then they will be shown how to design their book using Scribus, which is a free downloadable bookmaking programme, and is capable of producing a pdf to professional standards. At the end of the course, they will have laid out and designed their book and have a pdf for discussion with the other class members. MATERIALS REQUIRED One digital camera or phone camera for shooting the pictures. One laptop computer (or shared laptop, on which to make the books (Scribus is available for both Windows and Apple operating systems. If a student already has something like Indesign or another graphic design programme, they can use that, as long as they end up with a pdf).
